Web Developer

We are looking for the right person to be a Web Developer at our Hunt Valley Studio. This position involves leading custom web development throughout the entire project life cycle. BreakAway’s web developer will be responsible for the graphic design of user interfaces for web deployment, while understanding the requirements and constraints related to that domain. They should understand to a functional degree how web deployed graphics work with supporting programming. The right individual for this role will be a motivated and energetic developer who takes initiative, enjoys finding solutions to a varying number of challenges, is detail-oriented, and takes extreme pride in their work. BreakAway Games is located in Hunt Valley MD in the greater Baltimore-Washington area. BreakAway Games has a generous compensation package which includes, health, dental, vision and 401K participation.

Responsibilities

  • Creation of site layout/user interface from provided design concepts by using standard HTML/CSS practices.
  • Ability of creating and publishing web pages for prototype and review purposes
  • Ability to produce web content in a production pipeline where user interface engineers can clearly understand and adapt the content to target web site functionality.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees in other disciplines, such as user interface engineers and system designers.
  • Ability to gather work specifications and requirements as needed.

Skills

  • 2+ years of rapid web development, using HTML, CSS, ASP, Flash preferred.
  • 2+ years experience with COTS graphic tools, using Photoshop
  • Ability to communicate directly with peers, managers, and clients while leading development to a completed and successful solution.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to grow professionally in a highly flexible and fast-moving environment

Requirements

  • BFA, BA, BS or equivalent.

Pluses

  • Previous experience using the following web-oriented packages and supporting languages: Unity 3D and C#, Action Script 3, Javascript or Java, Silverlight and C#
  • Previous experience using the following graphic design packages: Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Expression Blend and Design

Mid-Level Programmer

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced programmer interested in game and simulation oriented domains. In this position you will work with a team of other talented developers to implement content including but not limited to UI, asset integration, development tools, 2D/3D graphics, sound integration, and more.

Activities/Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain software codebase with a team of developers of different disciplines (i.e.; art, design).
  • Develop and enhance in-house asset management tools
  • Ability to communicate ideas effectively through use of non-computer mediums
  • Understanding of good production and asset management practices

Candidates in this role should be

  • Pro-active problem solvers who demonstrate a strong sense of creativity and respect for aesthetics
  • Must be willing to work under and take direction from a Team Lead
  • If coming from outside the game industry, will be expected to learn/understand how game-play and architecture issues can affect content creation and successfully develop workflows to compensate for such

Skills

  • Understanding of software development lifecycle and process
  • Strong knowledge of higher order languages (C#, Java) as well as web-oriented languages (Javascript/PHP/HTML)
  • Must be able to take ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Respectful of engineering process and procedures but not a slave to the process
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills

Education

  • Experience with web page development using Flash, Unity 3D, Silverlight

Pluses

  • Experience with the Unity engine
